Unhealthy Thoughts Prevent Wealth
The only way you can change the amount of money in your account is to change the thoughts in your mind about finances.
So, by popular demand, here are the “Unhealthy Thoughts” that contribute to our lack of wealth.
Unhealthy thought #1:
If I can just win, find or be willed some money, I would be on a good start!
Reality: The odds are against this happening. So stop fantasizing about the day and create your own payday.
Unhealthy thought #2:
I have a retirement plan with my job. This is all I need.
Reality: Having a retirement plan with your employer is excellent. However, what will you do if there is an emergency larger than you expected or can afford.
Unhealthy thought #3
I pay my bills and have just enough to treat myself.
Reality: When you get paid, you should PAY YOURSELF FIRST.
Unhealthy thought #4
If I am able to “pay myself first,” the first thing I am going to buy will be a brand new…
Reality: When you pay yourself first, you should think about how any extra money can make you more money.
Unhealthy thought #5
It is all about me.
Reality: My grandmother taught me, “You get back in life what you put in.” We do need to take charge of our lives. However, wealth in our families and our communities is about passing on wealth and more importantly our KNOWLEDGE to sustain this wealth.
Unhealthy thought #6
If I get in a financial bind, I can always borrow some money from….
Reality: You should have your own emergency cushion. Borrowing money only increases the level of stress in your life. Though the bill is paid, the debt is just redirected in another way. Most times, it only creates strains on relationships with loved ones. (I would rather break up with my credit card company than my family member, friend or loved one)
Unhealthy thought # 7
I made mistakes with my credit. I do not think I will ever buy a house any time soon.
Reality: SO UNTRUE! Yes, we all make mistakes. Credit mistakes, like life mistakes are forgivable. We just work harder to regain trust. Rebuilding our credit trustworthiness does not take a lifetime.
Unhealthy thought # 8
With time, blemishes on my credit will just go away.
Reality: Many times, if you are not proactive in getting credit blemishes removed, they will sit and sit and sit.
Unhealthy thought # 9
I have less than $100.00 left over in my check after I pay my bills. This will not make me a wealthy person.
Reality: Department stores, creditors, shopping malls and all the other rich people know you have this mentality. They are taking that measly $100.00 you have each month. They are getting WEALTHY off you.
Unhealthy thought # 10
I do not have the time or the knowledge needed to sit down and thoroughly plan my financial goals.
Reality: You have mastered “Robbing Peter to Pay Paul.” That was a plan!
Unhealthy thought # 11
I will never be wealthy.
Reality: You are absolutely right if you continue on this pathway.
